Women In Campdrafting Raise $28,000 for McGrath Foundation
|Women In Campdrafting Raise $28,000 for McGrath Foundation - 15th Feb 2017|
"Lucindale Campdraft Club was lucky enough to get invited to hold an event, |
One that is not for profit and full of good intent,
The Women In Campdrafting dates were locked in and a subcommittee formed
Full of motivation and enthusiasm out of the initial meeting, 6 women stormed!"
That's where the 2016 WIC all started and boy were we in for one hell of a ride!
Not only did we want to put on an absolutely cracking weekend for the women attending but we also wanted to have a red hot crack at raising a bucket load of money for the McGrath Foundation.
The Western District Campdraft Association had set the bar high raising over $14,000 so we set that as our target!
"How do we go about this and how do we raise lots of money?
Then one Miss Nicola Turner said something left of field and kind of funny.
Think empowering, fun and classy ladies with plenty of flair;
How about a calendar of ladies wearing nothing but air?'
The challenge was accepted and with that a bunch of women stripped off their gear and didn't withhold! Together with the enthusiasm of these brave women, our brilliant photographer Nicola who had us in stitches laughing the whole time and our generous sponsors the calendar alone raised almost $10,000 for the McGrath Foundation, but we didn't stop there!
Rymil Winery jumped on board to do a wine drive, a Go Fund Me account was set up, calendar and stubby holder sales were going well and we had some amazing goods and services being donated for our Auction on the Saturday night! Our fund raising target was in sight!
As was our goal to put on an absolutely amazing weekend for everyone attending! Friday 25th November was upon us before we knew it, and the excitement was contagious and the laughs began! Upon registration the 60 ladies attending the weekend were spoilt with a gorgeous pink bag made by Rugs By Shelly Penny and donated by Australian Livestock Artificial Breeders filled with loads of goodies all generously donated!
Saturday morning saw the ladies ditch their Wranglers and boots for Lorna Jane and a sunrise Yoga session with Sally Schults before tucking into a hearty breakfast cooked up by Nicola, Tim, Deanna and Vivien! Then it was time to get the show on the road! The ever entertaining Shannon Brown had us in stitches from the start as she introduced the ladies to the instructors for the weekend, and what a line up it was! Stacey Smith, Darren Jewell, Brooke Hazlett, Graeme Baulch, Bruce O'Dell and Jayne Jewell had very generously donated their weekend to share their knowledge with us!
Local McGrath Foundation Breast Care Nurse Margie Atwell came and shared her "Booby" knowledge with us at lunch, and discussed the importance of breast checks, what to look for etc and womens health in general.
Saturday night saw the ladies be treated to a delicious meal cooked by the Lucindale Football Club and enjoy a pink cocktail or two! The clubrooms were decked out in pink thanks to the decorating talents of Helen Treloar and Anna Eddy the scene was set for the evening. Ronnie Dix was our Auctioneer for the evening and what a brilliant job he did! The bidding kicked off and people didn't hold back!
After a very successful auction with all items going for top price we got to dance the night away to local duo Fab & Hoody.
Another sunrise Yoga session saw the ladies out in their lycra Sunday morning! Then it was time to get "Pretty in Pink!" There was no holding back the ladies (and Baulchy's) imagination when it came to these outfits! A lot of planning, time and effort had gone into them and the results were hilarious!
We all formed as a group and had a minutes silence to remember those who had lost their battle with cancer, then we released pink balloons in their honor. It was a very moving and beautiful moment.
Sunday afternoon saw the ladies get to put their news skills to the test and have a run on the cattle very kindly donated by the Snodgrass Family before it was time to pack up and hit the road home.
Just like that the WIC was over for another year.

Wrap up from the committee
WOW! There really are no words to describe what an amazing experience it has been to be a part of the 2016 WIC Committee. As this goes to print our fundraising tally sits at a whopping $28,000! That's double what our target was! As you can imagine we are doing a little happy dance!
We could not have done this without the overwhelming generosity of everyone who supported this event in way or another. Please accept this as our most gracious THANKYOU!
Special thanks of course must go to Shannon! You are an absolute legend, thank you for your support in the lead up to and your MC skills over the WIC weekend creating a brilliant atmosphere!
So saddle up and tighten your girths girls, as life is a rough ride,
Anything it throws at you we are sure you will take in your stride.
Be grateful for life and all the good things and remember to cherish the small,
Be proud of who you are, what you've accomplished and remember to always stand tall.
Love Melanie, Anna, Helen, Jodie, Raquel & Nicola. xxxxxx
